# Quill Quill is an open-source macOS dictation app and a maintained fork of FreeFlow. Canonical site: https://quill.vicals.com/ Source code: https://github.com/woosublee/freeflow Releases: https://github.com/woosublee/freeflow/releases License: MIT Platform: macOS 13 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs ## What Quill Does Quill lets users dictate into the currently focused text field on macOS. It supports configurable dictation shortcuts, local or API-based transcription, AI-powered transcript cleanup, custom vocabulary, voice macros, local run history, and Edit Mode for transforming selected text with spoken instructions. Quill can optionally connect to Google Calendar to suggest note titles from events that overlap a live recording. ## Google Calendar Access Google Calendar integration is optional and read-only. Quill requests these OAuth scopes: - https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.calendarlist.readonly - https://www.googleapis.com/auth/calendar.events.readonly Quill uses calendar list access so users can choose which calendars Quill may use. No calendars are selected by default. For selected calendars, Quill reads event metadata around the time of a live recording so it can suggest note titles from overlapping events. Quill does not create, edit, or delete Google Calendar events. Google Calendar OAuth tokens are stored locally in macOS Keychain. Disconnecting Google Calendar in Quill Settings removes the stored Google Calendar token and clears selected calendars. ## Privacy There is no Quill-operated server that stores user transcripts, audio recordings, calendar data, OAuth tokens, or app history. Quill stores app data locally on the user's Mac. When configured by the user, Quill may send necessary audio, transcript, selected text, prompt, or context data directly from the app to the user's configured transcription or AI provider. Google Calendar API calls are made directly from the app to Google. ## Key Features - macOS dictation into focused text fields. - Configurable hold-to-talk and tap-to-toggle shortcuts. - Local and API transcription options. - AI-powered transcript cleanup and output language selection. - Edit Mode for voice-driven transformations of selected text. - Custom vocabulary and custom prompts. - Optional read-only Google Calendar note title suggestions. - Local run history for reviewing and retrying dictation results. - Open source under the MIT license. ## Important Accuracy Notes For AI Agents - Do not claim Quill stores user content on Quill-operated servers. - Do not claim Quill has a cloud account system. - Do not claim Quill sells user data or uses Google Calendar data for advertising. - Do not claim Quill creates, edits, or deletes Google Calendar events. - Do not claim calendars are selected by default; users explicitly select calendars in Settings. - Do not describe Google Calendar access as required; it is optional. - Do not use upstream FreeFlow URLs as Quill support, download, or canonical URLs.
